Description

Plan and sell transportation and accommodations for travel agency customers. Determine destination, modes of transportation, travel dates, costs, and accommodations required.

Experience

Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience may be helpful in these occupations, but usually is not needed. For example, a drywall installer might benefit from experience installing drywall, but an inexperienced person could still learn to be an installer with little difficulty.

Education

These occupations usually require a high school diploma and may require some vocational training or job-related course work. In some cases, an associate's or bachelor's degree could be needed.

Training

Tasks

Computes cost of travel and accommodations, using calculator, computer, carrier tariff books, and hotel rate books, or quotes package tour's costs.
Books transportation and hotel reservations, using computer terminal or telephone.
Provides customer with brochures and publications containing travel information, such as local customs, points of interest, or foreign country regulations.
Plans, describes, arranges, and sells itinerary tour packages and promotional travel incentives offered by various travel carriers.
Prints or requests transportation carrier tickets, using computer printer system or system link to travel carrier.
Collects payment for transportation and accommodations from customer.
Converses with customer to determine destination, mode of transportation, travel dates, financial considerations, and accommodations required.
