Description
Plan and sell transportation and accommodations for travel agency customers. Determine destination, modes of transportation, travel dates, costs, and accommodations required.

Experience
Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience may be helpful in these occupations, but usually is not needed. For example, a drywall installer might benefit from experience installing drywall, but an inexperienced person could still learn to be an installer with little difficulty.

Education
These occupations usually require a high school diploma and may require some vocational training or job-related course work. In some cases, an associate's or bachelor's degree could be needed.

  • Computes cost of travel and accommodations, using calculator, computer, carrier tariff books, and hotel rate books, or quotes package tour's costs.
  • Books transportation and hotel reservations, using computer terminal or telephone.
  • Provides customer with brochures and publications containing travel information, such as local customs, points of interest, or foreign country regulations.
  • Plans, describes, arranges, and sells itinerary tour packages and promotional travel incentives offered by various travel carriers.
  • Prints or requests transportation carrier tickets, using computer printer system or system link to travel carrier.
  • Collects payment for transportation and accommodations from customer.
  • Converses with customer to determine destination, mode of transportation, travel dates, financial considerations, and accommodations required.
