Description
Operate or control an entire process or system of machines, often through the use of control boards, to transfer or treat water or liquid waste.

Experience
Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience may be helpful in these occupations, but usually is not needed. For example, a drywall installer might benefit from experience installing drywall, but an inexperienced person could still learn to be an installer with little difficulty.

Education

Tasks
  • Inspects equipment and monitors operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions.

  • Directs and coordinates plant workers engaged in routine operations and maintenance activities.
  • Adds chemicals, such as ammonia, chlorine, and lime, to disinfect and deodorize water and other liquids.
  • Collects and tests water and sewage samples, using test equipment and color analysis standards.
  • Maintains, repairs, and lubricates equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Records operational data, personnel attendance, and meter and gauge readings on specified forms.
  • Operates and adjusts controls on equipment to purify and clarify water, process or dispose of sewage, and generate power.
