Description
Perform clerical duties in court of law; prepare docket of cases to be called; secure information for judges; and contact witnesses, attorneys, and litigants to obtain information for court.

Experience
Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required for these occupations. For example, an electrician must have completed three or four years of apprenticeship or several years of vocational training, and often must have passed a licensing exam, in order to perform the job.

  • Records minutes of court proceedings, using stenotype machine or shorthand, and transcribes testimony, using typewriter or computer.
  • Prepares docket or calendar of cases to be called, using typewriter or computer.
  • Secures information for judges and contacts witnesses, attorneys, and litigants to obtain information for court.
  • Notifies district attorney's office of cases prosecuted by district attorney.
  • Explains procedures or forms to parties in case.
  • Prepares case folders and posts, files, or routes documents.
  • Instructs parties when to appear in court.
